
Xavier Díaz-Latorre (theorbo) is an esteemed Spanish lutenist, guitarist, and theorbist recognized for his mastery and exceptional technique in interpreting early music. Born in Barcelona, Díaz-Latorre has built a remarkable career as one of the most important specialists in Renaissance and Baroque musical repertoire. His performances, whether as a soloist or as a member of renowned ensembles, are appreciated for their elegance, sensitivity, and adherence to historical perspective.
Díaz-Latorre has collaborated with some of the world’s most prestigious early music groups and conductors, including Jordi Savall, with whom he has built a long-lasting artistic partnership. His solo recitals and work with ensembles such as Hespèrion XXI, Le Concert des Nations, and La Capella Reial de Catalunya have taken him to concert halls and stages of major festivals in Europe, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, where he has captivated audiences with his nuanced interpretations and impeccable technique.
He is the founder and director of the ensemble Laberintos Ingeniosos. His discography is vast and includes highly acclaimed recordings of works by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Luys de Narváez, Francisco Guerau, and Robert de Visée. These recordings are notable for their clarity, expressive depth, and authentic manner of historically informed musical interpretation.
In addition to his performing career, Díaz-Latorre has been a professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona and the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (KCB) in Brussels. He is currently a professor at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (SCB) in Switzerland – the world’s most important school for early music, where he continues to inspire the next generation of early music musicians.
